Located near the border with the Republic of Macedonia and Serbia. Kyustendil is situated in the southern part of Kyustendil valley at the foot of the mountain Osogovo, 527 maltitude, on both banks of the river Banshtitsa, a tributary of the river Struma. South of the town rises the hillHissarluka – northeast branch of Osogovo. The distance from Kyustendil to Sofia is 86 km to the border with the Republic of Macedonia is 22 km to the border with the Republic of Serbia – around 30 km. The city is an importantroad junction on the road Sofia – Skopje train station and the line Sofia – Pernik – Gyueshevo. In Kyustendil goesPan-European Transport Corridor 8 (Vlora – Tirana – Skopje – Sofia – Burgas – Asia).
